OUR WINEMAKER

Coby Ladwig grew up in Denmark, Western Australia and was often seen as a youngster playing in the vineyards where his mother worked after school. This meant it was only a matter of time before Coby joined the wine industry. Following his graduation from Curtin University in Perth in 2002, he returned to his hometown with his sights set firmly on realising the potential of the Great Southern region as a producer of outstanding wine.

Coby passionately believes that the cool climate of the region has the potential to make exceptional wines that can compete with the best in the world. He spent five years winemaking with West Cape Howe Wines before moving to Rockcliffe in 2007 where he was involved in designing and building the winery.

Dickinson Estate Wines - Coby Ladwig - Winemaker

Coby Ladwig

It was here in 2009 that Coby began winemaking for Trevor and Mary Dickinson and the Dickinson Estate wines were born. The gravely soils of the Blackwood Valley and the hard work by Trevor and Mary in the vineyard have resulted in the wines we see today – 5 trophies, numerous gold medals and a 5 star rating from James Halliday. In 2012, Coby was placed in the Top 10 of the Wine Society’s Young Winemaker of the Year Awards which is open to Australian and New Zealand winemakers.

Coby has won numerous awards for wines he has made over the years and he is committed to the philosophy of identifying the best sites and sub-regions for each varietal to make exceptional single vineyard wines. The Dickinson Estate vines along with Trevor and Mary’s dedication have resulted in all the right ingredients for Coby to craft the highly rated range of wines of Dickinson Estate.
